The Good, The Bad, The Challenging
Being a personal trainer is such a rewarding career.
Every day, I get to help people push their personal limits and move the needle forward. Working on physical fitness is more than building a booty and a strong core. It begins with an internal, “I HAD ENOUGH”, and then people seek out the help they need to improve themselves and their situations. For example, one woman came to me wanting bigger arms, but her deeper concern was the lack of strength after a shoulder injury occurred many years prior.
Things I love about in person training are:
Physically working with people
Creating a schedule that works for me and my family
Encountering all different people with different goals, challenges, and needs
Learning new personal facts about each person I work with (I LOVE this part of the job)
While I love the in person work, and I enjoy the more I learn about my clients, it does come with its challenges. For example, some of the challenges I face daily are:
Some people’s schedules are difficult to work around
I sacrifice sleep a couple days a week (late night into early morning)
I have to figure out when I can fit in my personal workouts
I have to figure out when I can work on my own personal goals
I don’t have enough hours in the day to work with every person that wants my help
When I changed my career, I didn’t realize how rewarding it would be. I took a chance without knowing what would happen! It was a great risk to take. While it has been slower in terms of making money (I am a W-2 at the gym I work), I have filled my book of business to help me financially, but also to allow me to reach as many people as I can to help them reach their goals.
